Lamar University, a dignified university of Texas is named after Mirabeau B. Lamar who was the founder of public education in Texas. The birth of Lamar University has various phases. For becoming Lamar University it was South Park Junior College (1923-32), then Lamar College (1932-49), then Lamar State College of Technology (1949-71) and then finally became Lamar University. Lamar University is also the member of Texas University System. With a motto “living the legacy, inventing the future” this college has provided their students a opportunities for achieving their careers by giving the quality education. 

Academics

Lamar University offers ninety six undergraduate programs, fifty graduate programs and eight doctoral degree programs in seven academic colleges. Those seven academic college are; College of Engineering, College of Education and Human Development, College of Business, College of Fine Arts and Communication and the College of Arts and Communication, the College of Graduate Studies and the Read Honors College. With the quality of core curriculum and the diversity of its student body, this university has been recognized nationally. Also by not offering a quality education this university also help its student to reduce their stress by providing ample opportunities. Also Lamar University has been providing secondary education through Texas Academy for Leadership in the humanities, stateu.com ‘and the Texas Governor’s School. Also with target of flow of quality education in Texas this university partnered with the University of Texas for creating an online dual credit program in summer of 2009. Online programs are provided to students through stateu.com.  Also there is provision of hostels in university named as Cardinal Village residence halls.
